Hope you had a nice Labor Day weekend. Reaching out in reference to the Nafion byproducts detailed in the EPA's
report last week. | spoke with Dr. Mark Strynar with the EPA about research he had previously done regarding Nafion
byproducts. His study is attached.
His team believed the two compounds detected (which are being called Nafion byproduct 1 and 2) possibly originate
from the oxidation ofethanesu|fony| fluoride, J-[1-[d0uoro-[(t(Uuoroetheny|)oxy]methy|)'1,J,Z,Z-tetraOuoroethoxy]1,1,2,2-tetrafluoro- (CAS 16090-14-5). 1 attached his email with his specific wording.

Submissions Low Detail Report, there are four acute/subacute toxicity studies listed — three of which were performed by
DuPont, and the fourth byacompany kept confidential.
Will DEQ/DHHS be using any of these studies as a starting point in determining a health goal level for these two Nafion
Also, | know Scott Saxton asked this yesterday, but wondering if there is an update: has Chemours determined if they
will stop discharging these Nafion byproducts in the Cape Fear River since the Thursday disclosure and request from the
state?
