Minimal funding for GenX contamination
The Legislature ignored a request from Governor Cooper for emergency funding to investigate
not only . • but presence of other unregulated chemicals in drinking
water. Cooper requested $2.5 million for the Department of Environmental Quality and
Department of Health and Human Services. DEQ has been challenged to keep up with water
quality inspectionsand permitting in the face of of -r - budget cuts. Chemours,-
company that discharged GenX, is operating on an expired permit.
