Hi Bridget and Jamie, We're working on a story for Wednesday's paper looking at the various GenX-related investigations that are taking place/just updating readers on where they are. Here's the ones I think I've counted from DEQ/the updates we would like. If I've missed something, please let me know: - Is the joint DEQ/DHHS investigation still ongoing? Can you give any information about what that investigation has entailed to this point? Or when it will come to a conclusion? Yes, the investigation includes DEQ's ongoing water sampling and testing we'rc conducting at multiple sites in the Cape. Fear Diver. DEQ and DHHS are working with the EPA and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to obtain more research that can be used to develop regulatory guidance: for GcnX and other emerging compounds. We: are also continuing to monitor the facility to ensure releases have stopped. In additi€_gin, we are taking a hard look at Chemours' wastewater discharge permit. As Governor Cooper's amnoune:ed, DEQ will deny Chemours' permit request to release GenX and a new pernut will be developed. As pant of its permit review, DEQ's investigation is looking into the specific identifying information the company provided for the chemi.als it was discharging to the Cape Fear Diver. Based on what we learn, DEQ will take any appropriate enforcement actions related to its Investigati€_gin. -Beyond announcing that Chemours will be barred from discharging any GenX, has DEQ begun Chemours' permit review process? I'm aware DEQ has stood by its statements that the review will not begin until the investigation is concluded, but when that occurs will the Chemours permit be prioritized? DEQ will prioritize review of Chemours' permit review . As Governor Cooper's announced, DEQ will deny Chemours' pernut request to release GenX and. a new permit will be developed.. - Has DEQ started providing the federal attorneys with documentation related to the subpoena that was recently filed? If not, is the department in the process of gathering some of that documentation? DEQ has started gathering documents in response to the: federal subpoena. We will make those available: to the: U.S. Attorneys' Office in a rolling production. Thanks, Adam This message may contain confidential and/or privileged information.
