You saw the press release but they are headed to Wilmington to discuss GenX with leaders there. I think they have a public meeting scheduled for 9 and a press conference at 10. • July 24: Late on Friday we learned that CFPUA received data back from its Sweeney plant. The numbers were quite high, north of the 140 ppt for July 16-18. We were helping Jim Flechtner work on messages for citizens, but suffice to say some of our data may come back high at the facility. At this point, it's been really low. • July 24: I'm told we may receive data from EPA for the next week in July. We will likely not put this stuff into the news release. I sent a copy of the news release around Friday afternoon. It's the one we held onto Friday due to the high numbers at the Bladen Bluffs finished water site. • July 24 or 25: we will likely send a news release with the latest data — the stuff from July 3 and 6. It shows things are trending downward but there are a few concentrations that are above the 140 ppt health goal set by DHES. We did a good job of explaining how there can be variations in water quality data due a range of factors (see page 2 of the news release). • July 26-27: we are due to receive data for Week 4-5 from Test America, I believe. It will need to be QA'd but good to reach out the Dana Satterwhite at the lab so she can provide the raw data to you so you can draft a press release and get it ready to go. • July 28: we could get calls about the reconstituting of the Secretary's Science Advisory Panel on Toxic Air Pollutants. Remember this is the group we want to take a closer look at hexavalent chromium and provide the department with a health assessment so we can work to establish a standard. They also will be tasked with coming up with similar info for the PFOAs, PFOSs and GenX. Anyway, by Friday we had been telling the media we would have assigned members to this panel, so you can expect that people would be asking. If we do have folks to appoint, we'll want to do a press release. • Cathy Akroyd is drafting a response letter re: hexavalent chromium. So she should have something to you by next week. I asked that she forward it on to you and then you can review, edit and send to Kathleen. The secretary wishes to see it before it goes back. I think it would be appropriate coming from the Secretary. So we should have Kathleen do that, I believe. Attached documents News release on GenX. This one is due out early next week. I emailed you a copy after 5 on Friday. But the version attached here is the same one. DEQ-CFW-00080913 Document on Performance Standards. In case you're asked about them, this is a good primer. Letter to WRAL in response to bad story on DMF. I thought Braxton should send. I also edited it. It's the one I sent you Friday afternoon. Contacts for local governments affected by GenX. DHHS has agreed to send all the news releases embargoed and a little talking point primer to local governments prior to sending these releases. Or at least that was the plan on Friday, July 21. So Sarah worked on the attached list of government contacts. But Mina Shehee at DHHS has one too. I just thought this would be good to have in case we need to send the news release in advance. • Chris Mackey, Communications Director at DHHS, at 919-855-4840 or 919-368-0934. • Sheila Holman, assistant secretary for DEQ, at 919-215-0898, 919-707-8619 or 919-441-0457 • Michael Regan, secretary, at 919-306-3431 or 919-946-4907 or 919-707-8622 • Kathleen Lance, admin., 919-707-8237 or 908-268-1509 • John Nicholson, deputy secretary, at 919-707-8624 or 919-817-0017 • Bill Lane, general counsel, at 919-707-8616 • Anderson Miller, legislative director, at 919-707-8618 or 919-817-0817 • Larry Lincoln, EPA Region 4 Comms director (been keeping him apprised of news releases) at Lincoln.Larryg.epa.gov • Sarah Young (doing web stuff on GenX) at 919-707-8604 or 919-623-5004 or 252-943-5289 • Jill Lucas (been handling the correspondence to people regarding GenX) at 919-707-8446 • Bridget Munger, 919-807-6363 or 919-268-0069 • Melanie Williams, been handling the GenX web map and loading all data, at 919-707-9119. • Dana Satterwhite, been getting and verifying all data, at 919-733-3908 Jamie Kritzer N.C.
