Paul & Kitty,
Mike Johnson from Dupont called today to let us know that a leakage
occurred at the Chem Serf Company in Wilmington which has been storing
the HFA-hydrate chemical. Approximately 20 gallons were lost but
contained with no drainage to a receiving stream. Mike was unsure if it
was a leakage from the tank or from piping. The chemical was contained
by a substance called PACKED MARL which is made up of calcite, clay and
sedimentation rock. Plans were to pump the chemical into another tank
(secondary) and clean up the spilled chemical and dispose of it
properly. The cleanup was supposed to be completed by 9 am today
6/13/01. Mr. Johnson was unsure if the company had notified the
Wilmington Regional Office.
