As requested by Jim Barber (DWQ Aquifer Protection - FRO), this Email is to
inform you of a release of a non -hazardous wastewater from an over -the -road
transportation container.
On May 14, 2007, a tank trailer transporting a non -hazardous wastewater
left the DuPont Company - Fayetteville Works and travelled to the Suttles
Truck Leasing terminal in Fayetteville, with an ultimate destination to an
out-of-state commercial disposal facility where the wastewater would be
incinerated. After the tank trailer exited Highway 87 onto Eastern
Boulevard (US Highway 301), it was discovered that the threaded cap on one
of the clean -out ports had not been installed. As a result, approximately
30 gallons of the wastewater was released from the tank trailer during the
fifteen mile trip. The driver installed the cap and continued to the
Suttles terminal. The released wastewater contained 135 mg/L (ppm) of
perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) and had a pH of between 7 and 9 SU.
