Thanks for the clarification. I would consider the following combination or a portion thereof:
DIIHS is continuing to review all available health data to make sure we are providing the most accurate and
useful information. We are also working with EPA and CDC to get their guidance about health risks of
GenX. EPA is working to update their risk assessment on GenX; it is not known at this time when this
assessment will be completed.

Thanks Zack,
Do you think we need to change this sentence to something like:
The EPA is developing an updated health screening level for GenX which should help with this process,
and NC DHHS is also coordinating with the Centers for Disease Control on health screening levels

Copying Mina for her awareness of the concerns from this group with our preliminary health
assessment.
I don't know if any specific response is needed, but if so I think the basic message would be that
we are continuing to review all available health data for this chemical to make sure we are
providing the most accurate and useful information. We also work with federal agencies to make
sure our assessments are complete and comprehensive.
Mina and Danny: Please feel free to weigh in if there's anything to add. Thanks.

Based oninfo shared onthe call this morning, here's what |would
suggest xveshare with the Cape Fear Riverkeeper. Thoughts onwhether
this should come from press office or policy office are welcomed.
Thanks for your inquiry. VVeappreciate and share your concerns about
water quality inthe Cape Fear region.
The North Carolina departments ofEnvironmental Quality and Health
and Human Service* are working together closely to Bet answers for the
public about GenX in their water supply. Here is the statement our
office shared with local media last week:
"Clean water isanecessity and families and businesses inthe Cape Fear
region are understandably concerned about their water. Governor
Cooper has asked the Department ofEnvironmental Quality towork
with the Department of Health and Human Services and local officials to
get tothe bottom ofthis immediately, and todemand answers from the
EPA and the company that produces the chemica|."
Last week, DE[\and DHHSannounced ajoint investigation into the
presence ofGenXinthe Cape Fear River. The initial goals ofthe
investigation are toget updated information onlevels ofGenXinthe
river and water supply and the best available information onpotential
health risks itcould cause. Toaccomplish those goals, DE{lbegan this
week collecting water samples for testing byaprivate lab inColorado
and the EPA. Those test results can then beused toanalyze drinking
water safety. The EPA iudeveloping anupdated health screening level
for GenXwhich should help with this process, and N[ DHHS is also
coordinating with the Centers for Disease Control on health screening
VVeshare your questions for [hemoursand DBQand DHH5will continue
topush the company for answers and action asthe state investigation
continues.

We're trying to reach Gov. Cooper today before our Community
Forum nnGenX happening TONIGHT a16nmin
Wilmington. The press has been invited. Local public officials
have been invited tnattend from New Hanover and Brunswick
lf possible, hcre are the would like movement or

statement. \e inktheir oa}oul@onm"/erevvrong. Our scientists
inWilmington spoke with [NHBS on Monday and were not
satisfied with [NHDBS'ainability to clarify how the assessed the
known risk. It is my understanding [F8HS miscalculated the risk
by omagnitude of three. Basically, [>H[H|S imtelling the public that
Gco7{iu lO0Os safer to consume than any PF()A/PF[)S. Wotake
issue with that assessment. WE WANT THAT ROLLED BACK
ASAP!!
- To my knowledge we have not heard any public statements from
Gov. Cooper on this entire issue and that is getting noted. If there
has been one and we missed it, my apologies... information has
been flowing quickly here. If no official statement has been made
to date, we are concerned by that.
- In that public statement we'd like to know that the State is doing
ALL it can to address this concern locally. Chemours released a
public statement yesterday offering to voluntarily halt all discharge
of GenX into our water supply. We have questions surrounding
that.
1. How is Chemours going to capture, remove, and dispose of the
wastewater containing GenX?
2. Sounds like this was a voluntary move on Chemours' part. Yet,
the statement only specified Chemours and not Kuraray or any
other facility at the Fayetteville Works site that has access to the
discharge permit and pipes. Does this mean that there will be NO
GenX discharged in any form or any amount from the facilities in
the DuPont, Chemours, or Kuraray complex at any point in time
from now on? Will Chemours be entering into a consent order to
ensure this is the case?
3. How will Chemours ensure that the drinking water drawn from
the Cape Fear River is safe in the future? What remediation steps
will be imposed on them?
Ultimately, we are asking for a better line of communication
between our local stakeholders and the State officials to ensure
greater transparency on this public health issue.
Here is the press release for tonight's Community Forum. it
outlines our speakers. I look forward to working with you on this
issue.

and CFPUA left everyone with more questions than answers. Cape
Fear River Watch is assembling a panel of environmental and
health stakeholders and professionals on Wednesday, June 21 from

downtown Wilmington for a Community Forum to address public
confusion and concern.
Former Wilmington mayor, Harper Peterson, will moderate this
discussion. The following professionals and educators have signed
on to give public statements and answer questions regarding
emergent contaminants in our shared water supply:
1. Dr. Lawerence Cahoon, PhD professor UNCW (biological
oceanographer)
2. Dr. Susanne Brander, PhD professor UNCW
(ecotoxicologist)
3. Kemp Burdette, Cape Fear Riverkeeper
4. Adam Wagner, StarNews reporter (only reporter invited to
Chemours' meeting).
