Subject: Latest information on Chemours
Can you update the letter we're sending to citizens?
I've copied and pasted and attached the latest on Chemours' announcement, plus EPA's response and our response to
I think the basics of the letter will remain the same, but just need to make sure we're providing the best available
information to concerned residents.
I'll take a look and approve what you develop so we can respond as quickly as possible.
For consistency, we'll likely use this language or some variation as some of the narrative on our web page. For that
reason, |'m copying Sarah, who's working on thevvebsite.
Thank you both for all you're doing topull this stuff together.

Date: June 2U,ZOl7
RALEIGH —The N.C. Department of Environmental Quality's Secretary Michael S. Regan made the following statement
Tuesday after Chemoun/announcement regarding GenX:
"Chemours' announcement today to capture, remove and safely dispose of the wastewater that contains the chemical
compound known as GenXfnom the [ape Fear River is a step in the right direction.
However, the N.C. Department of Environmental Quality and the N.C. Department of Health and Human Services plan to
continue to investigate this issue until we have answers to address the concerns of downstream water users.
DEQ will move forward with its schedule for collecting and analyzing water samples from the Cape Fear River. We plan
to collect samples for analysis in the Wilmington region Thursday and will continue collecting in both the Wilmington
and Fayetteville regions throughout the next two weeks. DEQ and DHHS will report the results.
We will also continue to push the Environmental Protection Agency to provide regulatory guidance on GenX, which is an
unre8u|atedcontaminant."
