Can you provide physical addresses for the PWSs? And if you have contact information, it should prove useful also. As for the DuPont Employee Recreation Center, I have been told that the only source of potable water for the DuPont -Fayetteville facility is now municipal water. The facility shut-in their water wells this summer. The wells produced from a deep aquifer. Prior to shut-in, the wells were tested for C-8, and the analytical results came back as non -detect. However, I will confirm this information with the facility. Pisgah Baptist Church, the Regional GIS person has identified that there apparently are two duPont facilities - one in Cumberland County and one in Bladen County. Our original search for PWSs near the duPont facility focused on the facility in Cumberland County. We have determined that the duPont facility of interest is actually the facility located in Bladen County, NC. For this reason, the following four PWSs (located within 2 miles of the Bladen County duPont facility) are ones that EPA would ask.that duPont consider monitoring during the January 23 - February 3 sampling period: William 0 Huske Lock and Dam (NC0309547) DuPont Employee Rec Center (NC0326797) Willis Creek AME Zion Church (NC0326735) Nance's Country Store (NC0326728) NOTE: Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church is no longer on our list of PWSs of interest. Thank you for the provided information and for your coordination with duPont concerning this request for C8 monitoring at nearby PWSs. (BY THE WAY, WHAT IS "HWS"?) The facility plans to collect groundwater, surface water, and sediment samples during the period from January 23 to February 3. SESD should be on -site during this time. The HWS has proposed that SESD collect ten samples. This scope of work is based on guidance the HWS received from SESD. The majority of these will be samples that SESD splits with DuPont -Fayetteville. (DuPont's sampling program for this event is considerably larger.) As the HWS and DuPont -Fayetteville discussed the samples to be collected during the sampling event mentioned above, we also talked about sampling PWSs. Since we haven't received a list of PWSs from EPA or guidance on sampling (such as a recommended radius from the plant), PWSs were not included in this sampling event. Please keep in mind that this idea has not been, as far as I know, proposed to DuPont corporate management. The plant environmental manager indicated he needs the details of EPA's request before sending it on to corporate management. However, he believes that, unless the scope of work is extremely large, it will be approved. The HWS and DuPont -Fayetteville also discussed Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church. The address given for the church in your previous e-mail is the plant's address. We did, however, locate a Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church about five miles north of the plant. Considering the distance from the plant to the church, DuPont -Fayetteville proposed, and the HWS concurred, that it would be better to wait for EPA's final list of PWSs. It would be great if duPont would do monitoring for C8 at public water systems (PWSs) near the plant. With regard to the PWSs that EPA would ask to be monitored, that list is not yet final. Our GIS folks have searched and located one PWS within a mile of the duPont facility. That is the Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church at 22828 NC Highway 87W. (The initial info I had about a nearby school should be ignored for now.) As indicated, EPA Region 4 has limited the search for PWSs to the one -mile radius. We have not yet gotten confirmation from EPA Headquarters that a one -mile radius is agreeable. We expect to hear from Headquarters soon and will forward any additional information to you.
