DuPont Company — Fayetteville Works

Dear Ms. Cannon:
Pursuant to Part V(D)(1) of the subject permit, this letter is the required written notification of a
newly discovered release at a previously identified Solid Waste Management Unit ("SVVMU").
On March 16, 2012, the Waste Fluorocarbon Storage Tank (SWMU 4) experienced an over -
pressurization when hydrocarbon liquids were inadvertently added to the tank. This caused the
tank's relief device to open, which resulted in some material from the tank, as well as solid
particles from the downstream vent piping, to be discharged through the process stack and onto
the surrounding ground.
Clean up actions following the release included using trisodium phosphate ("TSP") powder to
neutralize any acidic material, the physical removal of the TSP powder and the solid particles
from the ground, and the water washing of overhead piping and electrical cables to remove any
residue.
