1. Secretary Cohen just spoke with Executive Director (Bob Walker) of Brunswick H2Go.
2. The PWA attached to the earlier emails was DRAFT. It has not been issued/mailed.
3. H2Go sent it to solicit input as they wanted to include it as an insert in the next water bills (to be released on
07/15/17). To meet that deadline, he has to send the PWA to the printers on Monday or Tuesdsy.
4. Secretary offered her staff to chat with him on the phone first -thing Monday. Mr. Wlaker was very
appreciative ... and only wants to make sure his customers are kept abreast of the latest information.
5. 1 made the command decision to hijack our 8:30 am call by inviting Mr. Walker to dial -in. Separately, I
asked Danny Staley to extend a similar invitation to the Brunswick and New Hanover health department
directors.
6. 1 propose we use that 8:30 am call to address his questions, share what we have PUBLICLY released, what
csuses us psuse in his draft release, and to let him know we (and his LRD) are available resources to him.

Today | received the attached draft Precautionary Water Advisory ("P\NA") from
Brunswick Regional Water & Sewer HZGo ("HZGo"). HJGo purportedly intends to
publish this PVVA to its customers. The PVVA recommends that H26o customers find
alternative sources ofdrinking water due to the presence of[8 and GenX in the Cape
Fear River.
While HZGosuggests it isnot "hitting the panic bu11on,"|amconcerned that will bethe
practical effect of the PVVA--xvhether warranted or not. | am mindful of the June 12,
I017 statement published by the Occupational Environmental Epidemiology Branch of
the North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, citing a Derived No Effect
Level of7O,9U9 no/LofGenX based on a 2-yearchronic toxicity study, and concluding
that the GenX levels detected inthe Cape Fear River "would be expected to pose |ovv
risk to human hea|th." HJGo's PWA appears to contradict DHHS's own position. |
recognize that the agencies copied hereon are tasked with evaluating the toxicity of
these substances and establishing standards protective of the public. Due to the
urgency of this issue, | request your immediate advice with regards to an appropriate
response toH2Go'sPrecautionary Water Advisory.
