The StarNevvorepmr�y1onJune , 1h that researchers from NCState and USEPA discovered the presence ufthe
perfluorinated compound GenX (C-6), and other "novel" perfluoroalkyl ether carboxylic acids (PFECAs) in the Cape Fear
River water supplies. Very little information exists about the toxicity of GenX, and zero (0) studies have been performed
toevaluate the combined toxicity ofGenXand other PFE[Au. Though the EPA has not established health advisory limits
for these emerging unregulated contaminants, levels of GenX and other PFECAs found in the Cape Fear River exceed
established limits for PFOA (C8) by factors of about 9 to 100 times of that deemed safe for human consumption.
Laboratory tests indicate these contaminants may be endocrine disruptors and may be linked to kidney and
testicular cancer, impaired fetal development, and disorders to the liver, thyroid, and immune system.
The Cape Fear River is the source of water supplies for Brunswick County Public Utilities who treats and sells
finished drinking water toH3G[).
Over the past month, an overwhelming number of news reports, social media posts, and community forums have
created a great sense of concern and uncertainty about the safety of our drinking water. H2GOstaff has been
following this situation and has evaluated the most credible written and quoted sources of health information
regarding the effects these unregulated contaminants may potentially have on the health and welfare of our

It is recommended that, if possible, you find an alternate source of water, bottled or distilled, for drinking,
cooking, washing vegetables, brushing teeth, and making ice. Bathing, showering, and washing clothes and
lishes with tap water are OK. At this time, we cannot recommend a home filter or under -sink purification
-,ystem that has been proven to effectively remove GenX and other PFECA contaminants. Boiling water will no
remove these contaminants.
I understand this may come as an alarming advisory, but let me clarify, H2GO is not hitting the "panic button" on
this situation. When it comes to your health and welfare, however, I prefer to err on the side of caution. With
limited health information known to us now, it is our responsibility to advise and share the best course of action so
that you might consider individual decisions about the potential health risks from consuming your drinking water.
With new information developing weekly, if not daily, this Precautionary Water Advisory is subject to change.
