It also needs to be made clear to them than that under a DWQ land application permit they will need to apply the material at an agronomic rate and not as a fill material. In the meantime, they are welcome to send the material to a permitted landfill. The PFOA results where separate from the TCLP data in the email that you forwarded Larry. Have you received a response from Larry concerning the management of this material? I have a email drafted, that needs to be updated to send to Mike Johnson at DuPont, but I'm waiting for some concurrence before sending. If Ed hasn't forwarded the draft email to you, let me know and I can send. If you wish to respond to Mike instead, that would be fine by us, to insure DuPont is directed in the proper way to permit said material or to convey DWQ's concerns about the proposed plan and conditions that would be associated with the proposed management of the residuals. At this time I will be in the office most of the week. If you wish to discuss, please give me a call at your convenience. Attached are the sediment sampling data that we received from DuPont. Prior to permitting DuPont to land apply the alum residuals as a soil amendment (not fill), we will request that DuPont provide to us in writing a statement from DWM clarifying whether or not the alum residuals must handled by the DWM's Hazardous Waste Section or other DWM permitted facility. m Jon Risgaard — Supervisor, Land Application Unit Aquifer Protection Section — Land Application Unit 1636 Mail Service Center Raleigh, NC 27699-1636 DEQ-CFW 00010634 919-715-6167 919-7I5-5048 FAX http://h2n.enr.state.nc.us/7au/main.html ozscLxImsx: per Executive order No. 15O, all e-mails sent to and from this account are subject to the North Carolina public Records Law and may be disclosed to third parties. ---original message --- prom: Hardee, Ed Sent: Tuesday' August 24' ZOlO 8:41 m* To: nisgaard, zon subject: rw: Residuals land application forms Ed Hardee Aquifer protection section Land Application unit 1636 mail service center Raleigh, mc 27699-1636 Phone (919) 715-6189 Fax (919) 715-0598 ozscLxImsx: per Executive order No. 15O, all e-mails sent to and from this account are subject to the North Carolina public Records Law and may be disclosed to third parties. ---original message --- prom: Michael c 3ohnsnn [mailtn:michael.s.3ohnson@usx.dupnnt.cnm] Sent: Friday, zuly 16' ZOIO 12:38 Pm To: Barber, zim Cc: Hardee, Ed subject: Re: Residuals land application forms 3im: Thank you for calling me today and discussing DuPont's options to remove the river water sediment from our basin and placing it in our on -site Borrow Area. Per your request, attached are the analytical results for the required seven samples of the sediment. All analyses were dune by the Compuchem lab in Cary. The one outstanding analyte is the PpoA result that wc-owm is especially interested in, as this analysis is performed at another lab. z will work to get that result xsxp, but it will no doubt be at less than l ppb levels. You will see that sample 01 was run as a duplicate' and samples 02 through 07 were all run as single analyses. z also color coded the table for my own use. The cells that are not colored were "non -detectable" or "less than moL^ The cells colored blue had positive measurable concentrations of the analyte. The cells colored yellow had laboratory qualifiers on them. for which ^3^ means the result was estimated due to a data quality issue and the result was less than the p0L, and a ^n^ qualifier means that contamination was seen in either the trip blank, equipment blank or method blank.
