Subject: NC SAB Tabled PFOA Risk Assessment
Atthe August ZS 2010 NC Science Advisory Board Teleconference Meeting, the Board voted to table its draftPFOA
(perOumromctanoicacid) risk assessment and any further discussions on PFOA until notification of the publication of
additional studies. Recent studies, not published as yet, show |uvver NOAELs and LOAELsthan those used inthe draft
risk assessment. Adverse effects may be occurring at an order of magnitude lower than the level used to develop the
draft recommendation in the risk assessment (0.9to 1.6 uo/L).
The NC SAB will revisit PFOA at its November meeting to determine if any additional info rmatio n/stud ies are
available. They have asked the New Jersey DEP to submit any new information on PFOA found as a result of their
monthly literature searches. SAB member 8aina Kenyon will be keeping track via Pub'Med, a US National Library of
Medicine database at .
The board reiterated that DWQ is not obligated to use the Board's PFOA recommendation when finalized.
