Diana — I think the recommendation from the Science Advisory Board WOUId ultimately he considered by Div. of Water
Quality in proposing a groundwater standard to the EMC. I Would guess the place to start is Coleen — the Aquifer
Protection Section in DWQ would likely be involved in development of the proposed groundwater standard,

Comment: Governor Perdue, I am writing because I am concerned about the safety of our drinking water in the
state. The North Carolina Science Advisory Board on Toxic Air Pollutants recently recommended setting a
Maximum Allowable Concentration (MAC) for the extremely toxic and persistent contaminant
perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) in groundwater. The proposed MAC for lifetime exposure is 3 to 5 times less
protective than contamination limits in other states where PFOA pollutes drinking water. This represents a
significant risk to our water supply. It also raises concerns about the level of influence by outside influences on
the public functioning of our state. No other state comes close to allowing levels this high, inviting suspicions of
corruption and future lawsuits against the state. I encourage you to intervene and reconsider this decision.
