Project Summary Applicant Proposes to dredge an area approximately 120' x 61 _ to a depth of -6' mlw adjacent tc existing and new marina structures. Mr. Johnnie Baker Page two 9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION The project area lies adjacent to the existing Bridge Tender Marina on Airlie Road in New Hanover County. This is adjacent to the AIWW, just south of the Wrightsville Beach Bridge. The site currently houses a marina with all the associated facilities and a restaurant. The applicant has recently purchased the adjacent undeveloped lot, which holds State Permit #127-89. He has altered this permit under a minor modification to eliminate the pier, deck, and dock, and extend the Bridge Tender Marina docks southward across this corridor. He has also reduced the office building to a deck for restaurant seating. The AIWW at the project site is approximately 500' wide, is classified SC by the Division of Environmental Management, and is closed to the taking of shellfish. The area is not designated a Primary Nursery Area by the Division of Marine Fisheries. The proposed project consists of dredging a shoaled area adjacent to the existing docks for about 151, and adjacent to the newly permitted structure for approximately 1051. The width of the proposed dredge area is approximately 6' and the finished depth would be -6' mlw. The dredge dimensions are 120 x 6 x -6' mlw, or 720 s.f. (160 cubic yards). The area has not been previously dredged. The bottom is very sandy, as it is adjacent- to the AIWW, and located in an area of extreme boat activity. Dredging is to be accomplished by a back hoe mounted on a barge., The spoil will be removed to a previously approved high ground site. The intent of the project is to serve transient boaters at this commercial marina. 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS The dredge activity will disturb approximately 720 square feet of bottom area. .It will remove approximately 160 cubic yards of sandy bottom material from the system. Also enclosed are the field report concerning the project, sketch of the dredge area, and adjacent riparian signatures. TB/tlh Ms. Tere Barrett NC Dept. NRCD Division of Coastal Management 7225 Wrightsville Avenue Wilmington, NC 28403 REF: Major Modification Major Permit #127-89 Dear Ms. Barrett: Post Office Box 163 Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina 28480 September 4, 1990 This is a request for approval of a major modification to Major CAMA Permit 4127-89. In accordance with our discussion and submittals including DCM-MP-2, we would like to remove ±150 cubic yards of sand at the south end of our transient dock on the AIWW at Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. The area extends southward for a distance of ±100 feet x 6'wide x 6' deep at MLW. As we discussed, due to the small amount of material to be moved, we plan to accomplish the work by barge and backhoe using contractors approved by your agency. All spoil material removed will be properly disposed of in accordance with state and federal regulations. I understand that the application and support data previously submitted is complete and satisfactory for you to proceed with processing of this request. If that is not the case, please advise. Thank you for your assistance. I will be glad to meet with you or others on the job site for review of our plans. Sincerely, r ? knnie C.
