Sampling Discussion Draft Agenda
Current sampling:
Monday June 19th
• Chemours' outfall 002, which also includes wastewater from the Kuraray and DuPont facilities.
• Bladen Bluff water treatment facility: intake, finished water and water supply well near the river.
Thursday June 22
• Lower Cape Fear Water and Sewer Authority's intake
• International Paper finished water
• Pender County public utility's finished water
• Brunswick County public utility's finished water
• Cape Fear Public Utility's Aquifer Storage and Recovery (ARS) well
• Wrightsville Beach water supply well.
Samples were shipped the day of testing to Test America in Arvada, Colorado for GenX analysis in the parts per trillion
range.
Samples were also collected for analysis by the EPA Office of Research and Development (ORD) lab in RTP, NC for
chemicals
identified in the Sun et al. study report, which included Dr. Knappe and EPA ORD. Samples were shipped to the DEQ
Division
of Water Resources lab and Chris Johnson is coordinating delivery to the EPA ORD lab.
DEQ will sample the same locations the weeks of June 26t" and July 3rd, with analysis done by Test America and EPA
ORD.
Sampling questions:
- EPA ORD commitment to analyze samples for the three weeks described .
- Concern with groundwater wells.
- Which labs can test for GenX.
- EPA's Unregulated Contaminant Monitoring Rule (UCMR) testing — background information.
Future sampling needs and plans of local water authorities
