PROJECT SUMMARY: The applicant proposes to reconfigure 7 slips at 82 Marina Village, Atlantic Beach, Carteret County. FIELD INVESTIGATION REPORT - 82 MARINA, CARTERET COUNTY PAGE #2 9. NARRATIVE DESCRIPTION: The applicant's property is a developed 15 acre tract known as 82 Marina Village, located on Bogue Sound, on E. Fort Macon Road, in Atlantic Beach, Carteret County. The development is a 75 unit condominium project which was built in the early 19701s. Dredge and Fill Permit #350 was issued in the early 1970's for initial construction of the project, then known as, Old Fort Macon, Inc. The marina and condominium village currently has approximately 2850' of bulkheaded shoreline which is used for docking boats along the side. The proposed project is located at the western end of the peninsula on Bogue Sound at Buildings #300 and #400. There currently is 151' of bulkheaded shoreline which is used to dock boats parallel to the bulkhead. The proposed project is to construct seven (7) 40' x 17' slips, with four (4) 8' wide floating docks and associated mooring pilings. These proposed slips would be constructed perpendicular to the bulkhead and will not increase the number of slips, but will increase the size of available slips. Water depths in the project area range from -4' MLW to -6' MLW. No dredging is proposed at this time. The width of the man-made canal at the project site ranges from 111' to 1201. 10. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS: The waters of Bogue Sound at the project site are closed to shellfishing by the Division of Environmental Health and Division of Marine Fisheries, and are classified as 'SA' by the Division of Environmental management. The proposed slips will occupy approximately 6,040 sq. ft. of public trust waters. The proposed slips may cause some navigational inconvenience in the area due to the narrow channel. PREPARED BY: W.
