9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project is located along the western edge of a man-made canal located
adjacent to Laurinburg Street. The lot is the typical 50' wide canal lot. The
depth of the lot is shown as 11.5'. There is an existing failing bulkhead along
the waterward edge of the property. This structure has a wing wall on the
southern end approximately 6.5' from the existing bulkhead to the south. There
is also an existing bulkhead on the lot to the north of the project site. A
border of smooth cordgrass marsh (Spartina alterniflora) exists waterward of
the existing bulkhead. This varies from 0' to 10' in width. Due to the
failure of the existing bulkhead "404" type vegetation has become established
landward of the existing alignment at the north corner. The species found here
include sea-ox-eye, spike grass and a few sprigs of smooth cordgrass. There is
an existing dock and pier along the shoreline. The waters are classified as SA
Closed and are a designated primary nursery area.
The applicant proposes to construct a new bulkhead across the shoreline of his
property. The bulkhead will be approximately 50' long and will align with the
existing bulkhead to either side of the project site.
10. POTENTIAL IMPACTS
The project with cause to be consumed approximately 50 s.f. of. "404" type
wetlands. This is not considered to be a significant loss of coastal
resources. The alignment of the bulkhead with the two to either side is
consistent with current regulations.
