Mr. Daisey,
JAMES H. TROGDON, III
SECRETARY
The NCDOT Ferry Division is requesting a revision to the CAMA Major Permit #224-87 for
the Hatteras — Ocracoke Passenger Ferry. Changes are for the Hatteras Ferry Terminal only. The
purpose of the CAMA Permit revision request is twofold, to allow additional room for
maneuvering of the passenger ferry while utilizing a single vessel and a temporary dock, and to
reflect changes to the electrical service configuration required by the State Construction Office.
The changes from the current CAMA Permit include:
• Shifting of the temporary floating dock approximately 4 feet eastward, closer to the
vehicle ferry ramps
• Changing protective line of pilings from the east side of the floating dock to the west
side, including additional protective piling on the aft end of the floating dock
• Construction of two additional piles on the west side of the floating dock in line with
existing piling to further protect the passenger ferry from docked vehicle ferries
• Approximately 7.5 foot expansion (5.5 feet east, 2 feet west) of the planned landing pad
for the gangway to the floating dock and sidewalk to access the gangway
• Construction of 3 raised platforms to raise sewer, water, and hose reels above flood
elevation
• Addition of concrete northwest of the passenger ferry shelter for a flag pole
• Movement of electric panel WP adjacent to the current terminal building
• Construction of a raised platform adjacent to panel WP to elevate two new electrical
transformers

This revision request does not create any additional impervious surface beyond those included
in the current CAMA permit, in fact the design as constructed has decreased the impervious
surface by approximately 275 square feet by removing the existing asphalt and replacing with a
grassy area northeast of the passenger ferry terminal. The included plan has been revised for
clarity and to indicate the items included on the previous permit that have already been
constructed
Sincerely,
