Project Summary The applicant proposes to construct a community pier to
provide water access for the community.

Page 2
9. PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The project site is located at the south end of Norwood Street with the
Schooner Pointe Subdivision, along the AIWW, Shallotte, North Carolina. The
site can be reached by SR 179 east which will converge into SR 1162, turn south
into SR 1162 to Schooner Pointe. The private lot has an area of approximately
19500 sqf with upland vegetation. There are several oak trees grouped in the
eastern portion of the lot. The shoreline has been bulkheaded from the far
western point all the way pass the subject property several lots. According to
Marine Fisheries, the waters in the project area are classified as SA waters,
primary nursery and are open to the taking of shellfish.
The applicant proposes to construct a 105' x 6' pier with an "L" shaped
platform at the end measuring approximately 10' x 15' in order to reach deeper
waters. This pier length would be less than the adjoining pier on the west.
This pier is to be used by the community.
10. ANTICIPATED IMPACT
The proposed pier is only 105' long and clears the near edge of the AIWW at
least 200'. This is normally an exempt pier status; however, since this pier
is to be used by the community, it was decided that a full permit process was
necessary.
