Project nummaryThe applicant proposes to construct an unenclosed gazebo at the waterward end of an existing pier in the Currituck Sound on Church's Island. BERTA LOU ELKIN BIO REPORT PAGE 2 SITE DESCRIPTION FAST TRACK The applicant owns an existing single family residence on the west side of S.R.#1142 on Church's Island. On the east side of S.R.#1142 is a small portion of the property which borders Currituck Sound. A dock and pier exists on this property and extends 120 feet into the sound. The applicant is requesting authorization to construct an unenclosed 14'X14' gazebo at the waterward end of the existing pier. This project is eligible for authorization under a general permit, however, the applicant was unable to obtain sign offs from the adjacent riparian property owners. ANTICIPATED IMPACTS The construction of the gazebo will result in some short term elevated turbidity levels which should be localized. The gazebo will shade 196 square feet of shallow water habitat. rams RFVTGW The project site is classified as conservation in the Currituck LUP. The proposed project is consistent with that plan.
