Dave, I spoke to you about this earlier. A NCDOT bridge replacement project on Witty
Rd currently under construction in Rockingham County (B-5715) received severe
flooding during the past rain events that resulted in the loss of a great deal of material
from around the recently constructed bents (see pictures). The tops of the drill shafts
are now exposed. NCDOT proposes to restore the area to the pre-construction contours
by adding soil around the shafts in order to meet the required coverage above the top
of the shaft. The area will then be heavily seeded and coir fiber matting will be added to
help shore up stabilization. Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns
about the proposed work.
