Subject: Compliance Evaluation Inspection
Single Family Wastewater Treatment System
6918 Innesbrook Way,Bahama,NC
Certificate of Coverage (CoC)NCG550591
Durham County
Dear Mr. Burgin:
On June 14, 2018 Jason Robinson and Jeremiah Dow from the Raleigh Regional Office visited your
single-family residence (SFR) wastewater treatment system at 6918 Innesbrook Way., Bahama,NC to
evaluate compliance with the above Certificate of Coverage to discharge wastewater. We appreciate
your help and cooperation during the inspection.
Please note the following, based on the inspection and our conversation:
1. Sample/Analyze the Effluent: As you are aware, this is an atypical system in that your wastewater
system is connected to at least two of your adjacent neighbors' wastewater systems. This is
problematic because your permit requires each system to be sampled annually.
In order to comply with the sampling requirements in the permit, you will need to ensure that
sampling is conducted after all treatment units (septic tank, sand filter, chlorination and chlorine
contact chamber), but before your neighbor's wastewater is introduced into the system. If this
cannot be accomplished with the current system's configuration, a plumber should install an
adequate sampling port on your property, most likely before the first concrete pump tank. This
may also require adding a chlorinator and chlorine contact chamber before the concrete pump tank
on your property, as it appears that the concrete pump tank also currently serves as the chlorinator
and chlorine contact chamber for this system.
Please determine if sampling can be properly conducted with the current configuration(after all
treatment units but before your neighbors' wastewater is introduced), or if not please provide
documentation within 90 days of receipt of this letter and a sampling port has been installed.
2. Disinfection/Chlorine Tablets: You are responsible for always having chlorine tablets and
dechlorination tablets (if a required part of your system) in place. They must be the kind for
wastewater treatment and not for swimming pools.

You mentioned during the inspection that chlorine tablets were placed in a tube that is in standing
water in the first pump tank. As described Item#1 above, it may be beneficial to have a plumber
install a chlorinator(chlorine tubes), a chlorine contact chamber and a dechlorinator in the line prior
to the first pump tank(as well as sampling port prior to the first pump tank). Then you would just
have to drop the chlorine tablets into the tubes instead of having to put them down into the concrete
tank.
3. Pumping the Septic Tank: Please continue to pump the septic tank as least every 3-5 years.
Thanks again for your assistance and cooperation.
Please respond to how you will address the underlined items in Item#1 above via email or a written
letter within 30 days of receiving this letter. Please email your response to
Jason.T.Robinson@ncdenr.gov or to Jason Robinson's attention at the address at the bottom of the first
page of this letter. Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,- /
