Project setting
The project site is located off SR 1323 at 300 Sunnyside Drive in a' subdivision on the
Pamlico River near the City of Washington in Beaufort County, North Carolina. The property is
bordered on the upstream (west) side by a developed lot with a natural shoreline. The downstream
(east) side-of the applicant's property is bordered by a ±30' wide manmade canal.- On the opposite
side of the manmade canal is a bulkheaded and developed lot. The applicant's property is ±60' wide
along the river front and is natural The property along the manmade canal is ±250' and the lower
half is bulkheaded. A house is present on the site and a ±12' by ±24' boathouse is adjacent to the
house on the manmade canal. At the intersection of the canal and river is an existing pier with a'L-
head, and a ±336 ft2 uncovered boat lift with a J-shaped catwalk on 2 1/2 sides. The total platform
size-of the existing L-head and catwalks is ±326 ft2. A wooden groin is present under the pier. The
property is vegetated with lawn grass, several pines and hardwood trees, and various landscape
shrubs and flowers adjacent the dwelling. The project site is ±6' above the normal water level.
The Pamlico River is classified as SB-NSW bythe Environmental Management Commission
at the project site. The Pamlico River at'the project site is coastal water but is not open to shell
fishing.
Project description
The applicant proposes to construct an ±22' by ±32' A-frame roof over the existing boat lift
and J-shaped catwalk which will create a boathouse with a total square footage of ±704.
Anticipated impacts
The project as proposed will result in the shading of ±704 ft' of river bottom from the
installation of a roof on the existing uncovered boat lift. The project as proposed will result in
localized turbidity as a result of the construction activities.
