Gentlemen,
With this letter, the Town of Wilkesboro, NC is requesting an "Authorization to Construct"
a 100' diameter clarifier addition. The proposed addition will provide redundancy in the
secondary clarifying portion of the process. In addition to the proposed clarifier, the project will
require the expansion of an existing sludge return pump station in order to receive the return
activated sludge from the new clarifier and to provide for possible future expansion of the
pumping station itself.
The existing wastewater treatment facility operates under NPDES Permit No. NC0021717,
Wilkesboro Wastewater Treatment Plant, 100 Snyder Street, Wilkesboro, Wilkes County, NC,
effective February 1, 2016, expiring September 30, 2019.
The proposed clarifier addition project is to be constructed under a design/build contract with
Cubic, Inc., P.O. Box 1347, North Wilkesboro, NC 28697, the design/build contractor. The
proposed clarifier is to be constructed independently of ongoing operations at the wastewater
treatment plant and is expected to have a total duration for construction activities of
approximately six months.
