At the time of the inspection, facility staff, Chris Gardner, showed the inspector the new water filter. The new filter is capable of smaller screening than the previous filter, which improves the water quality, but requires more maintenance due to the filter clogging and an increase in the concentration of dissolved solids released in the backwash. MRO staff recommends the following steps to be taken to help the facility to stay complaint: 1. Facility staff should chart the dissolved solids sampling results. By keeping track of the solids results facility staff could track the increase of solids in the discharge and know when the filter needs to be cleaned, prior to the facility being non compliant. 2. A coarse filter, either before pumping of well water or after, could be installed. The coarse filter will capture the bulk of the solids, leaving only the finer solids to the new filter. Doing so nay prolong the life span of the finer filter (and the pumps if the coarse filter will be installed prior to pumping), reduce maintenance and will help the facility to remain compliant.
