Subject: [Non-DoD Source] Onslow Bridge 11 notification
Brad and Joanne,
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is proposing to replace
Onslow Bridge Number 11 on SR 1434 Belgrade Swansboro Road in Onslow County
(17BP.3.R.56). Please find attached a copy of a CAMA general permit (07H .1600, .2300)
for the replacement of this bridge. This is a courtesy notification that department plans
to replace the bridge under a Nationwide Permit 3 and corresponding DEQ DWR Water
Quality General Certification No. 4132. Also attached are the permit drawings.
The bridge spans Starkeys Creek and is located 0.77 mile north of SR 1428 Riggs Road.
The existing bridge is a 2-span with both at 35' long. The proposed bridge is a 2-span
with 1@ 25' and 1@55' cored slab.
Due to a geotechnical finding, Onslow Bridge 11 will require drilled piers with
permanent steel casings at the interior bent (which is not within the JS). As shown on
the permit drawings, temporary excavation is shown in high ground where the slope will
be excavated so that equipment can access the interior bent. Mats will also be used in
this area in front of proposed end bent 1. These mats will also facilitate equipment
access for the drilled piers and the area is called out on the permit drawings (vicinity of -
L- Sta. 15+00).
The PJD paperwork for this bridge was signed on July 3, 2017 and the action ID number
is: SAW-2017-01367.
If you have any questions about the project, please do not hesitate to contact me. We
will be holding a preconstruction meeting and will include you both on the invitation.
Thank you,
Anneliese
