The plant was renovated June of 2017, and returned to service August 2017. Since the renovation, the plant has not met required limits for ammonia nitrogen levels or dissolved oxygen levels, on a consistent basis. The North Carolina Department Of Public Instruction was contacted November of 2017 to assist with the issues of non-compliance. Michael Leggett, PE, Engineer/Plant Operation Section, has been systematically evaluating the plant and has provided a preliminary scope of work and cost analysis to address limit violations. The estimated cost for repairs is Twenty-Eight Thousand Four Hundred Dollars ($28,400.00), and the work will not begin until June 11th, 2018, due to the occupancy of the building. The plant will be offline for repairs until faculty and staff return August 16th, 2018. The scope of work and cost analysis were delivered to Robert Bullock, Senior Specialist, Division of Water Resources, Water Quality Regional Operation, March 21st, 2018 for review.
