(13) Schedule of Compliance Total Copper, Total Lead, Total Silver, and Total Zinc Outfalls 002 & 003 Year 1 Summary Report. The following questions were addressed during the first year of the 5-year compliance schedule. 1 Discuss procedures with contracted lab to ensure elimination of potential contamination sources• The Kinston Site has a long-standing relationship with a local certified environmental lab. The lab has established QC procedures, methodology, and equipment for good laboratory practices. The DuPont Plant Waste Water Treatment lab is a certified lab for field test parameters and operated by our certified ORC and backup. The independent lab issues all our sample collection kits and coolers and the chain of custody is maintained throughout the process. 2 Examine basic sampling handling processes (field sampling, laboratory handling and analysis) All lab sample bottles come prepackaged and ready for field use from the independent lab. The plant uses refrigerated composite samplers. The samplers use the R-3603 Tygon tubing, which is changed out quarterly. Replaceable liners are used inside the carboys. For the additional investigative sampling of outfalls 002/003, both certified operators worked together to prevent any issues with sample handling and contamination. 3. Examine sampling equipment cleaning procedures (jugs/bottles/samplers/strainers/reagent quality) For the refrigerated composite samples, the carboy has replaceable liners. The dippers also use a replaceable liner and is changed out for each sample. A portable Manning 250 peristaltic pump sampler is also used(as needed) for additional samples along the route of the outfall. These pumps use the R-3603 Tygon tubing also. Dipped samples are collected directly into the prepackaged sample bottles. No intermediate container is used. All samples are packed in ice and delivered directly to the independent lab for analysis. 4. Ensure that sampling personnel are non-smokers. The DuPont Plant is a tobacco free site. The use of Tobacco products (cigarettes, cigars, pipes, chewing tobacco, snuff, electronic cigarettes, etc.) is prohibited by Dupont employees, and contractors performing work for Dupont, on the Kinston site, including roads and parking lot(inside and outside of the fenced area) and inside Company owned, rented, or leased vehicles. (Sorona Safety Manual Section 2, Item 200, Rules: #2) E I DuPont de Nemours and Company Page 1 of 2 Ar g J The DuPont Plant is actively removing obsolete equipment, buildings, cooling towers, and above ground storage tanks to improve the site and areas that may have impact to the outfalls. As mentioned above, additional samples are being collected to study the overall condition of outfalls 002/003 to have enough sample data to determine if further actions are needed to achieve compliance with the new limits.
