Jason The Wright Brothers / Thompson Arthur Design Build Team for the Asheboro Bypass requests that the following information be forwarded to the appropriate agencies/ personnel for their files. Thank you. During construction of the Asheboro Bypass, several construction factors have arisen at Site 50, -Y9A- 43+05, stream SKK-D. This location involves installing a new 36" RCP under existing NC 159, Zoo Parkway. The proposed pipe is shown at the same location as the existing 24" RCP. Currently the existing 24" RCP picks up drainage from a system that runs appr. 600' along NC 159 and takes it under NC 159. We would like to shift the proposed 36" RCP north a few feet and retain the existing 24" RCP. The 36" pipe would be installed by bore and jack methods (instead of open cut) and would be a welded steel pipe. It would also no longer impact the existing 24" RCP system. The reasons for this change are as follows: • The existing 24" system is extremely close to the existing road and would be a more dangerous work zone than the bore and jack operation. • Removing the 24" and installing the 36" would require shut downs to NC 159 due to the need to open cut the road. The bore and jack operation would require no shutdowns. • The time needed to install the 36" several feet north through bore and jack methods would be much quicker than replacing the 24" with the 36" in place. This reduces the amount of time we would be working in the jurisdictional feature. There would be no additional impacts to SKK-D due to this revision. The impacts already account for appr. 5' of permanent impact upstream of the existing 24" RCP. The contractor will work within the confines of the current permit and its impacts. There were no comments or requests made during the 4B or 4C meetings that would be violated with this revision. There are no utility impacts associated with this change since installation of the 36" pipe was already anticipated and evaluated. Erosion control measures will not need to be changed either. Although this revision has no impact changes, we are forwarding this information to the agencies for their files since what will be installed will not match the permit drawing.
