Niki and Karen, Please see the attached historical aerial photographs of the Hwy 97 Appeal site in Nash
County.
The 1937 aerial was taken before the ditch was dug. In the 1937 aerial, you can seethe natural drainage
headwaters and tributaries very clearly for the natural stream that we believe should have the buffer. At our
site visit, we observed the brown tanic acid stained water flowing from these headwaters that drains
approximately 175 acres.
The 1957 and 58 aerials show the ditch that was dug in 1957 by ST Wooten according to the resident
farmer. We do not think that this feature should be buffered since it was manmade and only drains about 95
acres of mostly farmland.
Also attached is a map of the drainage areas for both features.
Please consider these documents in your determination process.
We may provide more information as needed before the 60 day appeal determination delay has expired.
Thanks.
