RE: Seawall Repair Project and Additional Rip Rap Installation
David and Daryl Nelms — Paradise Point, Lake Lure, NC 28746
20171405
To whom it may concern,
Contained in these documents are a Shoreline Stabilization Application Form, a set of project
drawings, pictures keyed to the property plat, an agent authorization letter and a check for the
application fee of $240. The project includes the repair of two existing stone seawalls, the demolition
and reconstruction of a dock and boardwalk, and installing some additional rip rap at the toe of the
existing seawall all on property owned by David and Daryl Nelms at 0 Paradise Point.
As can be seen from the photos, the stone seawall is mortared in place with some of the mortar below
the normal lake level missing or worn away. These areas will be repaired as needed then rip rap will
be added at the toe of the wall to protect the footing. No rip rap will be placed in areas where there is
no seawall. The repair of the total length of seawall (approximately 650 feet) is included in the scope
of this project (there is approximately 1305 feet of shoreline with this property).
Based on the most recently issued RGP30 from the Wilmington District of the US Army Corps of
Engineers, effective Jan 1, 2017, this activity is permitted without notification to the Corps and is not
limited to 500 total linear feet of repairs.
The work proposed will be completed during the 2017-2018 lake level draw down that will begin
immediately after Thanksgiving and will end in February or early March. All repairs will be
completed such that mortar used to repoint the stone in the retaining wall has at least 28 days of cure
time. If you should need additional information to enable this permit application to be processed
more expediently please do not hesitate to contact me using my cell number or e-mail address.
Thank you,
