Dear Mr. Hinson:
Subject: Hold-401 Water Quality Certification
DWQ #08-1795
Briarbend Storm Drainage
Mecklenburg County, NC
The Division of Water Quality (DWQ) received your application for a 401 Water Quality
Certification for the subject project on December 9, 2008. 1 have reviewed the application and a
site visit was conducted on December 16, 2008. Based on the site visit and per our discussion
in the field other alternatives were suggested that might prevent impacts to the stream:
A) Clarification on the proposed grading plan relative to the existing elevations.
B) Feasibility of lowering the existing grade (upland) to create a larger flood plain
without impacting the stream.
C) The feasibility of constructing pools in the flood plain. For both the existing
proposed plan and alternative "B".
D) Clarify the location of the proposed "weirs".
E) The purpose for lowering the stream bed. Is it to meet the lower elevation or to gain
storage.
Pursuant to 15A NCAC 2H .0507(h), please be advised that this project will remain on hold
until the information is received. If you have questions regarding this matter, please contact Mr.
Alan Johnson or me at (704) 663- 1699.
Sincerely,
G?
