Currituck Bridge #6 - Cofferdam Notification
SEliz City 17082215060.pdf
The contractor for this project made a request yesterday to install a sheet pile
cofferdam for the installation of the concrete cap on the interior bent. The water level
has been elevated, and the contractor would like to pour the cap in the dry. As
authorized under the Nationwide Permit 3 Section (c), NCDOT will be constructing a
cofferdam for the construction of the interior bent cap, as shown in the attached
drawing.
Details of the dewatering operation from the Resident Engineer,
"The water is about 5-6' deep and we will be drawing it down approximately 2' so there
should be no sediment. For that reason, we were simply going to pump over the sheet
pile and back into the Creek. Once it is drawn down, it will be maintained at that level
(1.5' below the bottom of cap) until the concrete cures. Once cured, the forms will be
stripped and sheet pile removed. In other words, no live concrete will come in contact
with the water, we are using sheet pile to ensure we are working in the dry."
Thanks, and let me know as soon as possible if you have any concerns or would like
additional information.
