For your records, after seeing this site today, I am satisfied that DOT is doing
everything appropriate to get this site into compliance and stabilized as necessary
With possible rain coming in the next several days, I definitely recommend DOT
keeping a sharp eye out for further sediment loss Otherwise, the action items
listed in Chris's email seem appropriate to me and should keep everything fine at
least until the site is dewatered
Again, I appreciate DOT's speedy response to my inquiries for this project Please
keep me updated with any other noteworthy developments here

I called folks from the Roadside Environmental Field Operations Office after
receiving your voice mail earlier today Tim Robbins (Field Ops Technician) was
at the site during mid-morning and provided me with the following information
-Grubbing activity has been conducted without perimeter erosion control measures
in place (see attached photograph), buffer has been grubbed without perimeter
erosion control measures in place, and two stumps were grubbed on creek bank (see
attached photograph) resulting in loss of material into Clark's Creek
The following action items were discussed with the contractor and the NCDOT
inspector
- Recover material lost in creek from grubbing the tree stumps along the creek,
including clearing debris immediately
- Stabilize raw areas on creek banks with coir fiber matting immediately
- Install all perimeter erosion control measures by tomorrow
- Work in buffer area must be conducted in continuous manner until stabilized
Tim indicated that he would be in contact with Resident Engineers office today to
ensure that immediate action items are addressed today, and will visit site
tomorrow to ensure that other items are addressed as directed
David Moore (NCDOT Resident Engineer) responded at noon and indicated that a
suspension of operations letter is being given to the contractor due to this
issue Until the issues are corrected and approved by Tim Robbins on his site
visit tomorrow, there will be no other work happening on the project
