Thank you for providing the additional information about the buffer. In reviewing your restoration plan,
I have a few comments — please see below.
The restoration plan you have proposed is not sufficient. Please select two native hardwood tree
species and calculate the number of trees that will provide a density of 320 trees / acre at maturity
(0.04 acres x 320). The Dogwood and Redbud tree you identified are acceptable for replanting, but
must be planted at the correct density. Be aware that Mountain Laurel is a shrub, not a tree.
The rhododendron shrubs and grasses that you have also described in your restoration plan will help
satisfy the diffuse flow requirements within the buffer. Please revise your restoration plan to show
the appropriate number and species of hardwood trees that you intend to plant.
For your reference, the restoration requirements are stated in paragraph 2(m) "Riparian buffer
restoration" of the Catawba Buffer Rules. This states that "the restored, forested riparian buffer area
shall include a minimum of at least two native hardwood tree species planted at a density sufficient to
provide 320 trees per acres at maturity, and diffuse flow through the riparian buffer".

The 4 foot access path is in zone 1 it would be 4' x 30' foot in the buffer.
The road is in zone 2 it is 10'x 20' foot in the buffer.

50 foot Buffer:
Zone 1 — 30 feet upslope from top of full pond level (closest to shoreline)
Zone 2 — 20 feet upslope from Zone 1
