This is response to you letter signed for and received September 20, 2006
The selling real estate agent that lives in the neighborhood on the lake did not inform me
that the area was part of the protected Neuse area. She told me not to cut anything over four
inches in diameter and that the land belonged to the City of Raleigh. I did not get a survey or
receive any information about the area on the lake at closing. However, the area had been
previously cleared when I purchased the property two years ago. The house is currently
being remodeled and I had a landscaper clean out some underbrush to help control snakes
and try to clean the walking path. My neighbors were doing the same thing. I don't know
what else you could be referring to. I am not aware of any trees being removed while I have
owned the property.
I was told that we could fish, use paddle boats, kayaks etc. in the lake. Is that true?
I would like to know if I may cut out the underbrush (mostly briars) and install some of the
approved grasses in your guidelines packet? Is there something I can put down to keep the
area clear on (what I was told was) the public walking path, to keep it from growing up? Is
there really a right away for the walking path? Can the state do anything to help control the
poisonous water snakes?
I am just an ordinary tax paying citizen with children and a dog. I will be glad to meet with
you on the property to see and discuss what accusations are being made. Also, I will order a
survey for the property. It really seems that information should have to be properly disclosed
at closing with any property that is bordering a protected area.
