Gentlemen
Due to seasonal limitations we have decided not to spray the phragmites this year. I
plan to resched.ul.e for next: spring.
Thanks
Matt.

After talking with Randy today I understand that DWQ has giving the OK to treat
the phrag. as well. Have you heard
anything from USACE? Should we wait for them to respond or proceed on? Thanks
for your help with this.

I talked with Steven Lane and Steve Sollod (LAMA) concerning the
spraying of Smith Creek Mitigation Site. Based upon that
conversation, we need to proceed with the spraying to satisfy the
vegetation target species goal.. No permit is required for this
operation. USACE & DWQ did not reply. Hopefully in the future
we can have the agencies agree to have the target species for the
mitigation site match the adjacent wetlands where this won't be
such a futile task.
Good Luck!

Hi Mason,
As we discussed in our phone conversation earlier today, the success
criteria for the U-92 Smith Creek mitigation site requires that Y75% of
the site have a vegetative cover of wetland herbaceous speci..es, riot
including any invasive species. I would advise that some sort of
control. of the pliraami.tes be implemented to ensure that the s:i_te will be
able to meet: the success criteria. Without treatment of the
phragmites, the site could potentially be dominated by the pliragmites
at the end of the initial monitoring period, in which case we could not
accept the site as successful. The proposed spraying of the phragmit.es
would riot require any additional permits from our agencies, however, if
the proposed "swamp crawler" is to be used, due diligence must be taken
to prevent additional impacts such as deep rutting of the wetlands acid
running over the planted baldcypress trees. If you need any further
guidance or assistance with this matter, please let me know.
