Dear Mr. Dorney:
I have been a resident of Stanly County for 31 years; my spouse was born in Badin, in the
shadow of the ALCOA plant. I am writing to request a public hearing on the Badin Plant and
associated hydro project,
We are concerned that many toxic wastes remain in this community as a result of the smeltering
operation at Badin Works. My suspicion is that there continues to be deleterious effects on the
residents therein. I declare that my information is anecdotal, but I beliecve there is a spike in
infertility rates, still births, and birth defects in this community, A measured inquiry alone will
settle this,and other urgent health mattters.
This is the time to more closely examine ALCOA's management of this site.
