Mr. John Dorney,
I wanted to write to you this morning to urge you to ask for a full public hearing before granting Alcoa
Power Generating, Inc ("APGI") a Section 401 water quality certification. I have been lifelong
resident of Stanly County and have long had genuine concerns about contamination from the
operations of Alcoa in Badin NC.
As a former Chairman of the Stanly County Chamber of Commerce, I would respectfully urge you to
follow the lead of Governor Mike Easley and take the time needed to fully examine the impacts of the
Alcoa's contamination and its impact on our environment and drinking water.
A full Public Hearing on these issues is the only way to satisfy all parties involved. A full public
hearing is the best method to protect the public good in that all parties can defend their positions. I
see this as the absolute best choice for everyone involved.
Please Mr. Dorney, I urge you to Protect the Public interest and deny the Section 401 water quality
permit for Project 200801 - Alcoa ("APGI"). I am absolutely certain that you would be making the
correct choice .
