This email is to request an extension of at least one week for preparation of comments, particularly as neither of you was in the office this week to respond to my phone calls or requests for access to documents, as well as to ask for a full correction of my address information for your public notice list. There are no documents or announcement of this public comment period on DWQ's website that I was able to find. I also note that your memo on this public comment period is dated April 16th and that the notice for the Stanly County paper was only to be published on April 17th, which would provide a comment period of only two weeks. It was my understanding that the public comment period was required to be 30 days, and that the date of publication was the point at which that 30 day period was to begin. Mr. John Hennessee, with whom I also left a message called me back and said that was not the case, that there were other things that triggered the start of the 30 day period. If the date of publication in a local paper is, indeed the point at which a public comment period begins, and the required period is 30 days, that would mean that the published comment period could not end before May 17th. Please clarify this, and inform me by email if the comment period will be extended and my comments will be accepted as timely. Mr. Hennessee had offered to contact you personally to ask about this, but I felt it was much more appropriate, and in keeping with the mission of CWFNC, that this not be done as a personal favor to me, but that it be done in a manner that other folks with inadequate notice would also be able to make use of the additional time to prepare comments. Many thanks for your kind attention to these requests, Hope Taylor Executive Director Clean Water for NC 2009 Chapel Hill Rd. Durham, NC 27707 (919) 401-9600 1 of 1 5/5/2008 10:18 AM
