G. (Galen) Cail" <gcail@dot.state.nc.us> Galen, We used the UT to SW Beaverdam Creek as it is one of the few stable urban reaches around. We could not locate a reference in the immediate vicnity of the proposed project. I know we are in the Triassic Basin and there is a risk of hitting fractured rock and loosing the water; however, as we are keeping the stream close to the natural floodplain, I don't think we will have that problem here. Let me know if I need to provide more information or if anyone has more questions Jenny Jenny S. A biologist on our staff who specializes in stream mitigation, Eric Kulz, is assisting in the reviewing of the on-site relocation for section C (site 3). In reviewing the mitigation plan, he has a specific concern that I'd like to check with you about before we proceed further. The existing stream is an 11E4" type stream, while the reference reach used is a 11C511. Also, the existing stream is in the Triassic basin, whereas the reference reach is in the "Raleigh Belt". We understand the reference reach was picked due to being an urbanized stream, and that's where the main similarities lie. However, Eric is wondering if a reference reach that's more geologically similar to the proposed site could not be found. I tried looking thru the file's older notes to see if this was discussed in previous meetings, particularly before I took on the project ...but I haven't found anything. (So I'll apologize if it has already been discussed.) If you could clarify this issue for us, it'd help in our review.
