Paul,
The NCDOT can move forward in the utilization of Regional General Permit 197800080 for the stabilization of
the Right of Way (ROW) along the west side of NC 94 as described in your email correspondence on August 4, 2016. The
US Army Corps of Engineers Wilmington District has issued the project the Action Identification Number, SAW-2016-
01685.
This correspondence authorizes you to exceed the 500 linear foot maximum stabilization as indicated in Special
Condition (f) by the requested 184 linear feet due to the unique nature of the project.
If you have not already done so please download a copy of the requested permit at www.saw.usace.army.mil for
your file and to be able to review the terms and conditions associated with that permit. Also please be aware that this
permit expires on December 31, 2016.
If you have any questions please feel free to contact me by email or at the number listed below.

Subject: Request for Regional General Permit 80 for Shoreline Stabilization along NC HWY 94 on the Lake Mattamuskeet
Causeway in Hyde County
NCDOT requests the issuance of a Regional General Permit 80 and corresponding 401 Water Quality Certification for
shoreline stabilization along the shoulder of NC HWY 94 on the Lake Mattamuskeet Causeway. The location is just south
of Fairfield in Hyde County. Numerous areas of erosion have developed in the last year as a result of wave action
impacts that have increased due to Phragmites control along the shoreline of the causeway. The erosion is encroaching
on the roadway and the clear recovery area of the roadway. In order to protect the integrity of the roadway and the
safety of the clear recovery area, NCDOT proposes to place class B riprap along the shoreline in several sections, as
indicated on the included map. The total length of the project would be approximately 684 linear feet, and extend a
maximum of 10 feet from the shoreline.
Photos of each site are attached. Please let me know if you need any additional information for this project.
Thanks,
