We had a sediment loss at site 10. The project received 1.6” or rain last night. The contractor is actively grading
24/7. The night shift didn’t have adequate BMPs (including rock checks and ditches) placed in the areas where they
were working before the rains started. DOT inspectors had notified them that these needed to be installed before the
rain, and that rain was forecasted. The contractor said they didn’t have time to get the measures installed because the
storm came up quickly. Yet, thunderstorms are in the forecast every day right now, so they should be prepared. Also,
the inlet protection around the slope drains was not installed properly, which probably attributed to them not
functioning properly. I’ve attached a few pictures. Included in the attachment are pictures showing some properly
installed checks and slope drains. Our project inspectors installed these as a training for the contractor on how to
properly install the checks and inlet protection after we had our sediment loss a few months ago.

We’ve instructed them to remove the sediment from the channel. They have until 3pm tomorrow to complete. The
contractor and DOT have also inspected all erosion control measures (including the checks and inlet protection). As
before if the urgent items aren’t corrected in 24 hours, grading operations will be stopped. The same is true for routine
items that need to be repaired in 5 days.

I’ll let you know when the stream cleanup is completed and I’ve reviewed it. I probably won’t get out there until
Wednesday.
