Amy and Dave,
We talked to the Contractor this morning and they are planning to bring some core fiber matting and seed to the project
next week. Weather pending would should also be able to install the matting next week. I will send out a photo when it
is done.
Dave I think the photo would have been better if it was to the left a little bit. That way my stomach would have been out
of the photo.
Thanks
rich

Hi Amy,
The project looks good and NPDES paperwork is in order. The culvert and riprap were installed per the plans. Whatever
you all can do to stabilize the bank would be appreciated (picture attached).
Thanks Rich and Stephanie for taking the time to meet me out there to discuss the project.

Dave,
I talked with Stephanie and Rich regarding yesterday’s site review. Regarding the request to provide a more detailed
discussion of the culvert backfill, we provided clear information on the plans. The intent of the cover letter is to provide
basic project information. That being said, I understand that it could be confusing since I didn’t spell out that the low
flow barrel was to be filled when mentioning the overflow barrels. Moving forward, please reference the permit
drawings, SMP, or CSR (if provided) for this level of information, if there’s any confusion. I’ll try to make sure that if
we’re going to mention it in the cover letter that we clearly state that all barrels will be backfilled. Our hydraulics folks
typically require that the barrels are backfilled, based on guidance from the regulatory agencies. Sometimes, site
specific concerns result in their recommendation to not back fill. However the majority of our culverts will be
backfilled. If this is a problem, please discuss with your management and have them coordinate with Hydraulics directly
to change the guidance.
Regarding the concerns of the stream bank stabilization upstream of the stream work area, we’ll be happy to put
matting and seeding around the stump. However, if it washes away, we will not revisit the issue. Since we didn’t work
in this area and its not affecting our project, we are doing this as a courtesy based on you concerns. We cannot and
should not be expected to go beyond our project limits to fix stream bank instabilities that we have not caused or
exacerbated.
Rich,
Please proceed with matting around the stump as discussed in the field.
Let me know if you have any questions. Thanks for coordinating your site review with us.
