HomeMy WebLinkAbout20160423 Ver 1_IRT Preliminary Visit_201604204 WATER & LAND SOLUTIONS • Frank Farms Mitigation Bank • USGS Cataloging Unit 03020201 (Upper Neuse River) DWR Sub -basin 03-04-01 Drains to Flat River (WS -III; NSW) and eventually Lake Michie (water supply) • Rougemont, NC / Durham County • • Private stream restoration project to provide compensatory mitigation credits • —10,189 linear feet of perennial streams on Frank property • Active agricultural parcel that was suggested for stream restoration by the Durham Soil and Water Conservation District • Stream function is impaired by lateral scour and excessive erosion • Side tributaries have incised and headcuts are migrating upstream due to the main stem incision • 4-8 foot vertical (unstable) stream banks throughout portions of the project • Stream channel has lost connection with floodplain; tortuous and irregular meander pattern is present in upper reaches • Sedimentation from lateral erosion represents the most significant pollutant source associated with on-site streams • Restoration of this series of tributaries would restore/protect through to the headwaters • This stream section potentially represents the largest source of sediment/nutrients along this section of the Flat River • • 1.
