Mr. Weaver & Mr. Brantley,
Just wanted to follow up on the proposed anti -corrosion process on our cookers. The folks involved with the project
have changed the coating from a 100% zinc based coating to 85% zinc, 15% aluminum. I'm not sure if that makes a
difference, but wanted to keep you in the loop. Also, I received an email from our corporate Environmental Engineering
Leader stating that because of some recent changes to the definition of non -contact cooling water, they have had to
amend their NPDES permits at our other thermal plants because the cooling water in our rotary cookers contacts the
cans that are being processed, so it is technically not non -contact. The cooling water in our hydrostatic cookers is in a
contained loop and fed through heat exchangers, so that water is non -contact. I just wanted to make sure we were
operating in compliance and change our permit if necessary.
Thank you both for your help with this matter.

Mr. Osterman - your facility's coverage under NCG500000 covers the discharge of non -contact cooling water and similar
wastewaters. If the zinc coatings are applied to your cooking process equipment, it seems unlikely that the non -contact
wastewaters would be affected.
Your existing coverage under NCG500000 would not require any additional sampling. If you encounter difficulties during
the installation, or if you suspect that the coating process may impact your non -contact cooling water discharge[s],
contact the Fayetteville Regional Office for further guidance.
I've copied Mark Brantley of the FRO on this message, and he will let you know if further information is required.
Thanks for letting us know about this planned change to your facility.

Good afternoon Mr. Weaver.
Campbell Soup Supply Company, Maxton, NC is looking at the possibility of applying a zinc coating the steam shells of 4
of our rotary cookers and some corrosion -prone surfaces on our hydrostatic cookers. Will this require any additional
sampling or permit modifications as we currently operate under General Permit NCG500000? I'm just trying to be
proactive and ask for guidance to avoid any issues if the process is approved.
Thanks for your help.
