I want to know when you plan on repairing these ditches so that they drain????? My family and I have had to live with this for way too long. There is no excuse for this. You have managed to spend well over 1.7 million dollars of tax payers money to do what pave it?? That by the way was only supposed to be $850,000 in 2011. You are almost 1 million dollars over already what was originally planned. It is the same width as it was before you destroyed it. What natural erosion control that we had has been removed. We have mud slides constantly. You have deleted culverts that were here for years without replacing them. You hit so many natural springs and did not put in culverts or any way for water to drain into the few culverts that you replaced. You have filled our pastures full of waste. The road was not in any way straightened out. We have more blind curves now then we have ever had. The only difference is that people are running about 65 mph around them. These ditches stand full of water and it just isn't when it rains. It is constant due to these natural springs that you hit and lack of drainage.Water can not run up hill. The ditch lines look like a roller coster track. Up and down. And it can't drain when it has no culvert to drain in. When it does rain the water encroaches the road each time. Here are some facts that maybe you aren't aware of: Though no one can change the temperature or rainfall to control when mosquitoes begin their season, humans can discourage them from breeding by eliminating standing water in ditches. How long does "mosquito season" typically last? Mosquito season in N.C. lasts until late January. Activity is reduced after continuous temperatures below 50 Degrees F, but many mosquitoes can resume biting if the daytime temperatures rise above that. Last December was one the warmest months on record. With the threat new threat of the Zika Virus and the West Nile Virus not including the threat of our pets running the risk of developing heart worm, this is a health hazard. This needs to be fixed immediately. This road is nothing more than a breeding ground for mosquitos! In closing if NCDOT Division 11 can spend this gargantuan about of tax payers money to "pave" a road that only three people live on than you can fix the ditches that you screwed up to start with. The theory from Mr. Slaughter and Mr. Myers that the ditches will eventually fill and drain isn't going to work this time. Nor will I accept it! I would like to know when this work specifically is going to be begin. According to Mr. Holder in an e-mail dated November 19th 2015 Maintenance forces will work to fill in the low places in the ditches, but some of this work may not be accomplished until Spring. This work should have already began in the Winter. Please take a look at the attached pictures taken today. Notice the standing water and pay close attention to the eggs that have been laid in the water. That's how long the water has been standing. It's very obvious that if say a frog, salamander etc is laying their eggs than you know that mosquitoes are. I expect an answer by the end of the week. Thank you.
