The cause of the overflow was grease. Crews were dispatched, and the overflow stopped within 1 hour. Manholes and sewer lines in the area were flushed and vacuumed using a combo truck. The area affected was cleaned and storm drains in the area were cleaned using a combo truck as well. Our grease trap inspector was also dispatched that day to inspect a nearby grease trap. The grease trap was found to be in compliance. The following day, a CCTV crew was dispatched to inspect the condition of the pipe to ensure no repairs were needed. The pipe was found to be intact. In addition, as part of a multimillion -dollar project, the sewer main located on the 400 block of Hines Street is scheduled to be upgraded from eight inches to twelve inches. The City of Wilson also distributes FOG materials to residents biannually to educate the public on what should not be introduced into the sewer system. In addition, the water infrastructure also distributes door hangers in areas where grease is an ongoing issue. Crews periodically monitor this area for other issues and perform maintenance as needed. An estimated 300 gallons reached surface waters. I can be reached at (252) 296-3404 with further questions. Sincerely, L. Aaron Bailey Division and Maintenance Superintendent Cc: Grant W.
